Cheque presented to Leominster Meeting Centre

June 22, 2017

We were delighted to be able to present a cheque for just over £700 to the Leominster Meeting Centre following our 24-hour walk challenge.

Kemble at Home’s business and marketing manager, Sandra Taylor, completed the amazing 60-mile marathon - along with a team of volunteers who joined her for different sections - in May.

The challenge was inspired by our carers’ visits to Leominster Meeting Centre with  clients, when we saw just how valuable the facility was for people living with dementia.

The centre is run by the Alzheimer’s Society and there is no statutory funding in place from August so it has a very uncertain future - which is why the team here at Kemble at Home were so keen to help.

Meeting centres like this are breaking new ground here in the UK and the Leominster facility has been a pilot project but it’s future is now uncertain.

All the feedback from people attending has been hugely positive and we passionately believe it should stay open so we wanted to do something practical to help.

The 24-hour walk was a tough challenge but we knew we had to do something a bit different to help raise as much money as possible.

We were delighted that so many people joined us on the various sections of the walk, and wanted to say a huge thank you to David Seeney from the Excalibur Walking Club who walked the whole route.

We also want to say a massive thank you to everyone who donated money, and £700 is a significant amount of money which will make a real difference to Leominster Meeting Centre.

The centre has been funded by the Alzheimer’s Society and other statutory organisations like Herefordshire Council, but there is no guarantee of any further funding.

We wanted to raise enough money to help it continue for a while longer at least while they try to find alternative funding sources.

The centre does a wonderful job for people living with dementia and their families, providing recreational and social activities, such as music, sporting groups and outings, and we want it to continue for as long as possible.
